Small cities provide the perfect backdrop for all-American living and our hometown, Norwalk, Connecticut totally delivers. Though it’s a small town, there’s more to it than a few main streets and a town square. New England charm? Check. Maritime living? Check. Proximity to New York City, fine dining, and tourist attractions for the kids? Norwalk’s got it all.

We’re taking a moment to pay homage to our hometown in the southeast corner of “The Constitution State.” Communities along this stretch of the I-95 corridor are known for all things preppy and suburban, a misnomer that perhaps adds to Norwalk’s charm and ability to fly under the radar.

Founded in 1649, Norwalk has an old-fashioned American history, complete with a revolutionary war battle and an industrial past with railroads to boot. In contemporary times, the city has built upon this legacy, offering attractions for people from all walks of life.

For young families,  The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk offers a chance for the perfect outing, including incredible interactive exhibits. Close by is the Calf Pasture Beach, on the Long Island Sound, where kicking back and relaxing is the best way to spend a fun-filled afternoon with the kids.

If your travel companions skew a bit older, make sure to check out Washington Street and its corresponding historic district for afternoon strolls and an array of dining options. The neighborhood of South Norwalk can be enjoyed both day and night and with easy links to and from Manhattan by car or on the Metro North Line, visiting is easy for a last-minute getaway.
