The Perfect Vacation Bags: Behind The Scenes in Charleston, South Carolina

Few cities offer their visitors the chance to tap into local style like Charleston, South Carolina. The culture of southern hospitality certainly plays a role here, but so does Charleston's uniqueness and timeless beauty, which makes it so that a fashion moment is never a far walk or carriage ride away.

But just to be clear, style in Charleston isn’t based solely on history. With depictions like Bravo’s TV show Southern Charm and transplants moving to live beside its new restaurants and boutiques, Charleston is evolving with the times.

For these reasons, Dooney & Bourke breezed through Charleston this season for a photoshoot at several of its most enticing landmarks, bringing our freshest looks to this iconic American city.

One of our favorite stops was at the Pineapple Fountain in Waterfront Park, where the energy of the city’s riverside promenades brought to life our most colorful vacation bags of the season. Our Pebble Grain Satchel in turquoise was on full display given its sportiness and durability. Here, it was all about outdoor living, casual strolls, first dates, and all the small things that can make life effortlessly romantic in the midst of a cool sea breeze.

For a great meal and some socializing on the side, we visited Leon's Oyster Shop, a local hotspot for southern cuisine. While the restaurant is relatively new to the city, having opened in 2014, it’s a locale that represents contemporary Charleston’s flair for wonderful food and good company in a relaxed atmosphere. The scene was meant for our Belvedere Ambler in red, a sleek crossbody bag that’s all about transitioning from day to night while hanging out with friends.

Our visit to Charleston wouldn’t have been complete without a stop at Rainbow Row, one of the city’s premier tourist attractions. This line of Georgian terraced houses, painted in tropical colors, provided the perfect backdrop for one of our newest arrivals, the Maritime Tote, our accessory of choice for days spent out and about. In a city where bright pinks and purples cover many walls, and where gardens are around every corner, sometimes a simple silhouette is best for a day about town.
