Once upon a time, the majority of us had never heard of Zoom. But fast-forward to now. We’re spending more time than ever in front of screens for anything from work meetings to birthday happy hours. Over the last few months, we paid more attention to which room in our homes have the most flattering lighting and the most photogenic background. And we found that getting ready for the day is no longer about how we’re accessorizing, or what shoes we’re going to wear. Now, it’s all about having camera-ready skin.

While we’re grateful for the Zoom filter that sneakily soften light, it was important to figure out what else we could do on our own to look good on camera. We needed some expert advice.

So we turned to Britney Turner, one of our favorite boss ladies in NYC. Britney, podcast host extraordinaire and founder of HerStyle Media, has extensive experience coaching content creators, who also spend a lot of time in front of the camera. She gave us some great tips to ensure our skin is looking its best.

D&B: Walk us through the steps of your routine to be camera-ready.

I always start with my skincare routine first! After I’ve prepped my skin, it’s time for makeup. During the week, I try to keep my makeup routine to a minimal – only focusing on adding a natural glow so I can look awake and ready for the day. The most important steps for me during my makeup routine is to focus on my eye are a by concealing and adding brows and mascara. Next is a light bronzer and highlighter action, followed by a natural gloss. After this, I’m ready to focus on my hairstyle for that day, which is my go-to middle part bob and I’m all set!

What’s your favorite affordable product?

I’ve been loving the L’Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation! I honestly forgot why I even stopped wearing it. It provides such great coverage, and is under $15.

What’s one essential product you can’t live without?

One of my die-hard products since college is my e.l.f. Cosmetics Eyebrow Kit. For only $4, this item goes such a LONG WAY. I literally can’t imagine doing my brows without it.

How long does your Zoom makeup routine take you?

I’d say about 15 minutes. Now, if I’m trying to achieve a full look and not just a natural, subtle glow – then 25 minutes tops!

What’s the key to looking good on camera?

I LOVE direct sunlight, so I prop myself right in front of the window. I’m thankful to have huge almost floor to ceiling windows in my NJ apartment, so I tend to receive a lot of sun during the day.

What do you do off camera to ensure you look and feel great?

Lemon water is definitely my go-to for keeping my body and skin hydrated. I also love a good face mask. The ones I’ve been gravitating to the most is the Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask and their Overtime Mask.
