A Dooney & Bourke bag is a mark of craftsmanship. In 1975 we started in Norwalk, CT with a commitment to American craftsmen and American manufacturing. Over the past forty years, we have continuously made products in the U.S. through our Connecticut factory, and later with the addition of our factory in Puerto Rico.
Come to our any of our factories, and you’re not going to see automation. You’re going to see hand-made. Our craftsmen still use old-world leatherworking techniques. We believe there’s only one-way of doing things, and that’s by hand – and not by cutting corners.
Over the years, we have moved some of our manufacturing offshore - but we did so with careful consideration to promote fair labor practices and ensure good working conditions in our factories. We sought manufacturing partners that match our values. We are actively engaged with the management of our overseas facilities and encourage our partners to take responsibility for and incorporate social and environmental sustainability as a tenet of their corporate philosophies.
Additionally, Dooney & Bourke is a member of the Fair Labor Association (FLA). The FLA is a collaborative effort of universities, civil society organizations and socially responsible companies dedicated to protecting workers’ rights around the world. We look towards the FLA as an active partner in promoting social and environmental sustainability in the lives of our workers and our factories.
